Eight New Jean Monnet Projects will Facilitate Europeanization of Ukraine’s Higher Education
The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (ЕАСЕА) has announced selection results under Jean Monnet Activities Erasmus+ Programme for 2015 Call for Proposals. Out of 261 applications recommended for funding, 8 winning proposals will be implemented by 6 Ukrainian universities and 2 associations.
All participating universities: Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, Ternopil Ivan Puluy National Technical University, Odessa National Economic University, Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University, Chernihiv National T.G. Shevchenko Pedagogical University are novices to Jean Monnet Activities, as well as Ukrainian Librarian Association. Among Ukrainian winners, only Ukrainian European Studies Association is experienced in implementing Jean Monnet projects under the previous programme.
Out of 8 Ukrainian Jean Monnet projects, 6 are so-called “teaching” projects, i.e. Jean Monnet Modules focusing on comprehensive study of the EU and thoughtful reflections on European integration processes. Modules cover different disciplines and topics: major concepts and values of the EU, EU leadership roles in dealing with climate change, EU – Ukraine trade and economic relations, environmental safety and environmentally and socially responsible business. Two other projects aim at support to associations that disseminate and promote knowledge about the EU among public at large and broad-spectrum institutions, involve academia and expert community into debate about the EU, arouse interest to EU integration processes.

Background:
Jean Monnet Programme was launched in 1989 and operated till 2013; in 2014 it was transformed into Jean Monnet Activities under Erasmus+ programme. Under the 1st 2014 Call, 10 projects by Ukrainian institutions were selected for funding. Calls for Jean Monnet Activities are announced annually and aim to enhance research, teaching and training activities on the EU subjects and promote the EU among relevant stakeholders.
Erasmus+ is the EU programme that supports education, training, youth and sport and has three key actions: mobility, interinstitutional cooperation and policy support; launched in 2014, it will last till 2020.
